Cheese, just like butter, cream and any dairy products naturally taste sweet. So when cooking something with cheese and coconut, adding a pinch of Himalayan salt can create the effect of salted caramel where it will taste good for both sweet and salty snack.

Xanthan gum is a natural food thicker commonly used in ketogenic dieting foods, especially in gluten-free baking recipes, to keep the form and appearance.

Cooking tip: instead of just forming balls and baking them, next time you can try using a cupcake or donut baking mold so that the final result would be more interesting and creative.

FAQ

Can you use almond flour instead of coconut flour on keto?

Yes, on a keto diet, you can use almond flour instead of coconut flour. Almond flour is low in carbs and high in fat, making it a suitable keto flour, but remember to adjust the quantity as it has different absorption properties compared to coconut flour. When substituting almond flour for coconut flour, a general rule of thumb is to use a ratio of 3:1 or 4:1 almond flour to coconut flour. For example, if a recipe calls for 1 cup of coconut flour, you would replace it with 3 to 4 cups of almond flour. However, adjustments may be needed based on the specific recipe, as almond flour doesn’t absorb as much moisture as coconut flour.

What is the secret to baking with coconut flour?

The secret to successful baking with coconut flour involves understanding its unique properties. Coconut flour is highly absorbent, so it requires more liquid than other flours. Typically, for every cup of coconut flour, you need to add six eggs and about one cup of liquid to prevent dryness. Additionally, using coconut flour often means smaller quantities are needed compared to other flours. I also suggest to mix it well to avoid clumps and allow the batter to rest for a few minutes to fully absorb moisture. These adjustments help in achieving the right texture and consistency in your baked goods.

Does coconut flour make baked goods taste like coconut?

Coconut flour can impart a mild coconut flavor to baked goods, but the intensity of the taste often depends on the quantity used and the other ingredients in the recipe. In baking recipes with strong flavors from other components, like cocoa or spices, the coconut taste is usually less noticeable. However, in simpler recipes with fewer ingredients, the coconut flavor might be more pronounced.
