Mulled wine is among the most favourite drinks during winter not only because of its great taste and aroma but also because of the warmth it gives to the body. Today, we will prepare a much healthier and keto-friendlier version of the regular mulled wine, the Low Carb Mulled Wine.
As the name suggests, this drink has low carbohydrate content because of the sucrose and glucose levels in the drink. That is why you must choose the right kind of dry wine to use in the recipe.
The basis of this drink is dry red wine. Red wine is rich in a substance called resveratrol that helps boost heart health and reduces risks of cancer and some vision loss. Studies have also shown that red wine contributes significantly to maintaining healthy blood vessels and lowering blood pressure (1).
When choosing the best wine to use, keep in mind to pick a red wine that is natural and free from additives and sugar to make sure you are in line with your keto diet.
We recommend choosing Dry Farm Wines because their wines are Paleo and keto-friendly and have no added sugar.
You can play with the combination of ingredients to use with the wine. In the recipe, we will use star anise, cloves, cinnamon, dried orange zest, cardamoms, ginger powder, whole allspice berries, and nutmeg. These spices will give our drink a tangy taste and aroma that will surely captivate even your non-keto dieter friends. Enjoy!
Let’s Do It!
Mix everything in a saucepan and leave it to simmer on low for about 15 minutes. Never let it boil.
Strain the wine and distribute it to your glasses.
Add some lemon slices and cinnamon sticks and serve while warm.
