Please tell us your story:
My name is Emma and I’m 24 years old and Swedish. I’ve been on keto since April 2016 and since then I have lost 40 kilos (88 pounds). Growing up I was always the skinny and pretty blonde girl, but as a teenager, I started to gain weight and at some point, I lost control of my body.
How has your life changed since going keto?
16 months ago I decided to say goodbye to sugar and since then I have become a completely new person. It’s not only the weight that I have lost, but it’s also how I feel inside. I used to feel tired all the time, no matter how much I slept. Now I have more energy, I’m happier and I see myself with brand new eyes. It’s the best choice I’ve ever made.
What did you personally do in your first 10 days of keto?
Immediately when I decided to try this lifestyle I started to read a lot of information about it. I bought several books and I also spent several hours every day reading about other peoples stories online and trying to find good recipes.
Do you count and track macros strictly?
No, I don’t keep track of any macros at all. I don’t want to feel stressed about what and how much I eat. I eat whenever I feel hungry until I feel full.
Do you exercise?
No, I don’t exercise at all.
Have you ever encountered a plateau? If so, how did you get over it?
No, to be honest, it hasn’t even been difficult. I love the food I eat and I don’t miss sugar, pasta, potatoes etc… at all.
What is your WHY (your drive/motivation) to keep on track and stay focused?
Whenever I look at pictures from before I started this diet I know why I’m doing this. I never want to go back to where I started and feel the way I felt about myself back then. If I had candy or unhealthy food I used to hide the trash in the bottom of the trash can so my partner would not know because I was so ashamed of myself. I used to cry almost every day because I felt uncomfortable with my body. The choice is very easy for me, I never want to feel that way again.
What are your favorite ingredients to prepare keto meals?
Cheese, of course!
What are your favorite keto meals/recipes?
My biggest favorite is the fat head pizza recipe, it makes my keto life much much easier! In my opinion, it’s even better than normal pizza.
Is there any book or resources that you would recommend to our readers?
If there are any Swedish readers I would recommend ‘sockerbomben i din hjärna’. Unfortunately, I haven’t read any books in English.
Finally, What advice would you give someone who is just starting out on keto?
Read books and join different Facebook groups where you can ask questions and get help with finding motivation. Follow other keto people on Facebook, Instagram or Keto blog to get inspiration for recipes etc…
