Every year or so, a new health or food trend arises. But, with the appearance of so many new trends, it is true that some diets and some products truly produce miracle-like results. Amongst these, the most recent is the mediatic Coconut oil.

We use coconut oil very frequently in our ketogenic recipes simply because it is one of the best healthy fat sources in keto diet.

Coconut Oil Benefits

Coconut oil contains medium chain fatty acids, which are processed in the body much differently than the long-chain fatty acids in vegetable oils such as soybean and cottonseed oils. This small difference then leads to the huge health discrepancy between these oils.

Medium chain fatty acids, or MCTs, consist of a fatty acid chain that is much shorter than long-chain fatty acids, making them easier to break down and digest.

On top of this numerical difference, medium chain fatty acids are sent straight to the liver where they are immediately processed for energy use and not stored as fat.

So, if they are immediately used up for energy, what happens to any excessive Medium chain fatty acids? Medium chain fatty acids that are not instantly used as fuel are turned into ketones, which are fatty acids that can cross the blood-brain barrier to energize brain cells.

We may also talk about the differences not in the overall composition of these oils, but also on the individual fatty acids that make up these oils.

Processed vegetable oils such as canola, corn, soybean, cottonseed and safflower oils contain large amounts of omega 6 fatty acids. Unlike the anti-inflammatory omega 3 fatty acids, omega 6 is a type of fat that causes harm when eaten in excess.

With the exception of healthy vegetable oils such as olive and coconut oil, other vegetable oils increase inflammation and can have deleterious effects on the immune system. On top of all this, they can even cause DNA damage and contribute to chronic inflammation.

Finally, processed oils are loaded with trans fats, which are highly dangerous to the heart with trans fats even being linked to an increased risk of obesity, heart disease, cancer, and diabetes.

When it comes to avoiding fat in the name of keeping your heart healthy, trans fats are the ones to look out for, and not saturated fats.

By now, you may be thinking, but why do these facts matter?

The truth is the sum of these unique features that make up coconut oil, bring about a huge array of benefits. Amongst the top benefits, we may encounter weight loss and appetite control, anti-aging effect and more energy, heart disease and cancer prevention, and even metabolic disease prevention.

With such an arsenal of benefits of coconut oil, it’s no surprise celebrities and other public figures are becoming the greatest advocates of coconut oil.

With different reasons behind it, different goals, and even different types of application, here is a list of some of the top celebrities who use coconut oil.
